THE GREAT ESCAPE

LATE RODGERS & KABIA SALVO RESCUES MARINERS

HARROGATE 3 - 3 THE MARINERS

Grimsby headed to Harrogate with expectation more than hope this afternoon. After a tough first half both sides struggled with their respective head and tail winds.  With neither side threatening too much 0-0 half time score line was probably fair though Harrogate seemed to be the quicker of the two teams.

The referee in his first EFL start seemed keen to make everyone aware of who he was, in what wasn't a dirty game with Harrogate getting 3 early yellow cards.  He seemed to try and even it up throughout the game but it didn't feel like a game of 8 cards, with 5 going to the home side and the remainder to Town.

The game burst into life in the second half when Harrogate took a free kick quick and the Town defence looked not to be alive to it and SMITH took his chance with 58 minutes on the clock.

It was up to Town to push for an equaliser, but they looked to be huffing and puffing in their search for an equaliser, when Green whipped the ball in from the right a Town forward over stepped it leaving VERNAM in a great position to finish for 1-1.

That should have settled us down but Harrogate came again and in getting the ball forward for Duke-McKenna he bore down on Pym's goal and the unfortunate Town keeper hesitated before diving in to take down the forward in yellow and a penalty resulted. Ellis TAYLOR despatched the spot kick on 71 mins.

Harrogate went further ahead 5 minutes later when a quick break wasn't shut down and new signing MCALENY finished from the edge of the box.  Town looked dead and buried with 14 minutes left.

David Artell threw the dice bringing on Walker, Amaluzor and Gardner and again Town lifted and got into more forward positions.  It was Walker who worked the ball inside from the right and he played the ball to the edge of the box for Harvey RODGERS to rifle home from 23 yards.  At 3-2 Town's tails were up and there was always the feeling that the game wasn't over.

The fourth official signalled 6 minutes of added time and Town took advantage in the second minute of that, when the excellent substitute Gardner headed on for KABIA to chase and the former Truro man got ahead of his man and finished with aplomb.  The match had turned on its head in the final 10 minutes of the game for a 3-3 draw that looked really unlikely at 4:35pm.

All involved with Town will be delighted with the rescue of a point and the 3 good goals but a little concerned with the conceding of 3.

The Mariners will need to be better when they're on top if they have any kind of aspirations this season, but overall unbeaten 4 from 6 points is a creditable start.

Pym 6, Rogers 7, Tharme 7, McJannet 7, Sweeney 7, Green 7, McEachran 8, Khouri 6, Burns 6, Vernam 6, Kabia 8

FINAL SCORE:  HARROGATE 3 -3 TOWN

Yorkshire Battle for First Awayday

The Mariner's and their fans always love a match against a Yorkshire rival.  The season's first game thrilled the Blundell Park crowd, and Town will be looking to capitalise on that fantastic start later today when the face the Yorkshire outfit at the Exercise Stadium.

Even the most optimistic Town fan wouldn't be expecting for the same exact performance forty five more times, but we'll be hoping for the same, effort, energy and application knowing it will goa long way to securing points.

The lads return to the scene of Greeny's wonder goal and Jason's thunderbolt, hoping that any lead gained would need to be defended effectively.  Town have the pacy Jaze Kabia, as a new weapon this year and it will be interesting to see how he follows up his excellent first outing.

TOWN LINE UP (expected):

Pym, Rogers, Tharme, McJannet, Sweeney, Green, McEachran, Khouri, Burns, Vernam, Kabia

MARINERS DREAM START

MARINERS 3 CRAWLEY TOWN 0

Town's season opener thrilled the Blundell Park faithful this afternoon as the Mariners systematically demolish former League One side Crawley Town.

Jaze Kabia opened his scoring account from the penalty spot on 10 minutes after Greeny was upended in the box.  Cam McJannet doubled the lead on the half hour, and although Crawley rallied a little in the second half it wasn't enough to trouble the slick Mariners. Evan Khouri added Town's third on 64 mins with a rasping drive from the edge of the box.

An almost complete performance to kick off the campaign.  UP THE MARINERS

Attendance: 6,806 (221 Crawley)

TA buys title naming rights to historic Mariners Main Stand

The Mariners further foray into sponsorship today sees the announcement of the first ever sponsorship of the 100+ year old Main Stand.  Hot on the heels of the announcement that Ramsdens now sponsor the Upper and Lower, Technical Absorbents (TA) now have title rights on the Main, just remains to be seen how it will be referred to from now on.  Watch this space, but hats off to Lisa Piggott and the Commercial team for the steady influx of lucrative deals that are vital for sustainability of the club. Well done to all concerned!

Sky announces TV matches

Town have had three fixtures selected by SkySports for TV broadcast on SkySports Football.  The Tranmere Rovers home match scheduled for Saturday 29th November 2025 at BP will now be kicking off at 8pm on Thursday 27th November 2025.  This will probably frustrate Mariners fans who like their Saturday football, with Thursday not holding the same magic, and curtail some fans ability to attend the game.

Two further games have also been selected, away at Bromley on 20th December will now kick off at 12:30 instead of 3pm, making an earlier start for Mariners fans heading south and this game will be on SkySports+.

9 days later our home game with Shrewsbury Town on Monday 29th December will be an evening 7:45pm KO for SkySports+.

Mariners 3 Peterborough 2

Town finished their pre-season campaign at home to Peterborough on Saturday (26th July '25) running out 3-2 victors as a result of Jayden Sweeney's 89th minute winner.

Town led through a well taken Jaze KABIA strike in the 15th minute.  His goal and contributions during the games this week (incl Lincoln) are suggesting he will be a fan favourite already.   The lead was doubled on 40 minutes when Charles Vernam was upended in thebox and got up to confidently and Harry Kane like stroke home the penalty for 2-0, which was the score at the break.

Peterborough rallied in the second half and managed to reduce the deficit in the 73rd minute when Cian HAYES wriggled through the Town defence to score and they went on to equalise on 85' through young midfielder Eddie FOX probably undeservedly overall.  In between Town had had chances the best being a great effort by Jamie Walker being saved by Smith in the Posh goal.

The Mariners got their deserved win however in the 89th minute when Justin Amaluzor had a crack from outside the box at the Pontoon End, Smith could only parry to the feet of the alert and waiting Jayden SWEENEY, who gleefully rammed the into the Posh net, 3-2
